Kyron Drones injury update: Brent Pry reveals latest on Virginia Tech QB
Virginia Tech quarterback Kyron Drones did not practice with the team on Wednesday while rehabbing, according to Hokies head coach Brent Pry.
Pry revealed why Drones wasn’t on the field with the rest of the team, explaining the process that his QB1 will have to go through in order to be ready for Week 13’s matchup against the Duke Blue Devils. He’s officially questionable for Saturday’s game.
“He was in the training room getting some rehab,” Pry revealed. “He’s kind of going back and forth right now, truly. Getting as much treatment and rehab as he can. Sometimes he can throw in individual [drills] and things like that, but he’s out there with us for all the team periods and getting in as much work as he can.”
Drones has been dealing with a foot injury and was deemed a game-time decision for the Hokies’ Week 11 game vs. Clemson. He was able to go, but backup Collin Schlee was in the game by the time the game finished after Drones threw an interception in the third quarter.
“In his bet interest, his health and well-being, we’ll make the best decision that way,” Pry continued. “He’s played hurt and we’ve seen that. He’s one of the tougher guys on the team and he’s someone who can play hurt. But we’ve got a few more days [before Saturday]. He’ll keep going at it and again, I’m hopeful.”

Despite going through rehab, Pry said Drones “feels like himself,” and thanked the extra week of rest thanks to Virginia Tech’s bye for helping him heal.
Pry reiterated that Schlee, a UCLA transfer, will the team’s starting quarterback on Saturday if Drones is unable to go.
Regardless, the mission for Virginia Tech remains the same. With two weeks left in the regular season they’re one win away from becoming bowl eligible. Kickoff between the Hokies and Blue Devils is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET and will air live on the ACC Network.
