Kyron Drones injury update: Latest on Virginia Tech QB ahead of Clemson matchup
The Virginia Tech Hokies are getting back one of their biggest stars this week for one of their biggest games. VT signal-caller Kyron Drones was practicing in full on Wednesday, according to David Cunningham of Tech Sideline. Running back Bhayshul Tuten and corner Mansoor Delane were also moving through practice drills normally, according to Cunningham. Delane took the second-string defensive back reps.
While Virginia Tech currently sits at 5-4 overall, their record is a bit misleading. All of their losses have been close ones (7 points or less). And one of them came against the Miami Hurricanes, on one of the more controversial finishes of the 2024 college football season.
Drones has had a bit of an up and down year, but he has still flashed big time ability at times for the Hokies. They’ll need him back if they want to be at their best. He’s completed 62.3% of his passes for 1,447 passing yards, while tossing in 10 touchdowns with five interceptions. As a runner, Drones has 87 carries for 323 rushing yards and six touchdowns.
Last year, Drones completed 58.2% of his passes for 2,084 passing yards, while tossing in 17 touchdowns with three interceptions. As a runner, he had 166 carries for 818 rushing yards and five touchdowns.

Virginia Tech will wrap up their season with games against Clemson, Duke, and Virginia to see if they can become bowl eligible. Last year, the Hokies throttled Virginia in the Battle for the Commonwealth Cup, winning 55-17 in front of Virginia’s home fans in Scott Stadium. VT has dominated the rivalry since 2000. The Hokies have only lost the game twice, once in 2003 and once in 2019. Other than that, they’ve won every other year. It’s one of the most dominated rivalries in all of college football, if not the most dominated rivalry in the sport.
Running back Bhayshul Tuten is one of their best players and one of the most dynamic backs in the ACC. He has 142 carries for 951 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns. Pairing him with Drones’ dual-threat ability and it gives the Hokies one of the more dangerous backfields in the ACC.
