P.J. Prioleau injury update: Brent Pry reveals negative update on Virginia Tech RB
Virginia Tech running back P.J. Prioleau will miss time this season with an injury, Hokies head coach Brent Pry revealed on Wednesday.
Prioleau appeared to suffer a non-contact injury while running a route during VT’s 31-7 win over Stanford on the road over the weekend. He had to be helped off the field by training staff and was later spotted on the sideline in a walking boot.
“He is gonna be out a significant time,” Pry revealed. “Very, very, disappointing for him. For us, he’s a great teammate. He’s earned every opportunity. We were excited about what he could do in the back half of the season. And so that’s a disappointing loss because of how much he has invested in this thing, but also from the production standpoint.”
Bhayshul Tuten is the Hokies’ leading tailback, ranking second in the ACC in total rushing yards, totaling 107 carries for 605 yards and nine touchdowns through six games this season. Malachi Thomas is the team’s second-leading running back, but quarterback Kyron Drones is also heavily featured in the run game.
Still, Prioleau appeared to be hitting his stride and settling in as the team’s third running back before his injury.

“PJ was kind of a tag play guy,” Pry continued. “Yeah, you had some things you can do with him. We’ve got some guys that can do those things, and Jay Lane and Takye Heath but they’re not in the running back room. So we brought Tyler Mason up, a good couple of stretches yesterday and today, and we’ll see what’s going to happen.”
Prioleau also served as the team’s kick returner, and Pry revealed that safety Thomas Williams will fill in at the returner spot for the Hokies. He also mentioned Malachi Thomas as a player who could fill in the role from time to time.
Virginia Tech will have to move forward without Prioleau beginning on Saturday at home against Boston College. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET live on ESPN.
