Virginia Tech announces freshman Rodney Rice has broken right finger, timetable for return has not been set yet
Virginia Tech freshman Rodey Rice is out indefinitely after breaking his right finger at the end of practice on January 14th, the team announced in a press release issued on Wednesday night. His surgery is scheduled for Friday, January 20th. A timetable for his return has not been announced yet.
Rice has seen limited action this season for the Hokies–he played 29 minutes against Syracuse on January 11th. In that game, he stuffed the stat sheet with two points, four rebounds, and one assist.
Check out the official statement below from Virginia Tech basketball.
“Virginia Tech freshman guard Rodney Rice is out indefinitely after breaking a finger in his right hand at the end of practice on Jan. 14. He is scheduled for surgery on Friday and a set timeline for his return has not been set,” the press release reads.
The Hokies are set to square off against their in-state rivals, the Virginia Cavaliers tonight at 7:00 PM EST at John Paul Jones Arena in Charlottesville, Virginia. It should be a good one, as both teams have looked really good at times this season.

Virginia Tech finally gets Hunter Cattor back tonight
Virginia Tech has lost five straight, but tonight is when they get their superstar guard back, Hunter Cattor. He’s missed four games with a bruised elbow. Cattoor is one of the best players on their team and one of the best sharpshooters in the ACC. The Hokies are finally getting healthy, and it’ll be interesting to see if they can make a run to the NCAA Tournament. It certainly wouldn’t be a shock. They’ve got plenty of talent and an excellent coach. But time is running out.
They’ll face a stiff test from Virginia tonight in Charlottesville. The Cavaliers finally have a healthy Reece Beekman, and they feature a wide variety of weapons that can step up on any given night. Ben Vander Plas has been hot lately for the ‘Hoos, as has Armaan Franklin. If the Cavaliers are hitting their three-point shots, they become an extremely difficult team to beat.
