Virginia Tech has landed a commitment from Grant Basile, a veteran forward transfer from Wright State. Basile announced the news on his Twitter account Wednesday afternoon.

“Excited to announce my commitment to Virginia Tech,” Basile wrote.

Basile, a 6-foot-9, 225-pound forward, averaged 18.4 points and 8.5 rebounds per game while shooting 49.8% from the field last season for Wright State. Basile’s best game of the year came in the Raiders’ loss to Marshall on Nov. 12, as he poured in 37 points and grabbed five rebounds.

Over four seasons at Wright State, Basile averaged 12.9 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. His numbers improved each season – going from 1.3 points per game in 2018-2019 to 6.2 in 2019-2020, 15.0 in 2020-2021 and 18.4 in 2021-2022.

Basile joins a Virginia Tech team that went 23-13 overall, captured the ACC championship and lost to Texas in the first round of the NCAA Tournament last season.

One day after the news broke that Hokies’ star Keve Aluma is officially headed to the NBA Draft, Jalen Haynes — a freshman in 2021 who flashed promise but was constantly held out of games due to reportedly breaking rules and not meeting academic standards — announced he was committing to East Tennessee State, according to a report from Jon Rothstein.

The 6-foot-8 native from Fort Lauderdale, Florida appeared in nine games for the Hokies in 2021-22. He played 25 total minutes and scored seven points between two games against Saint Francis (PA) and St. Bonaventure.

Haynes participated in just two of 20 ACC games for Virginia Tech: against North Carolina (Jan. 24) and Pitt (Feb. 7).
