Virginia Tech beats Oklahoma State for 3-star WR Chance Fitzgerald
Nolenville (Tenn.) wide receiver Chance Fitzgerald entered his senior season with just over a dozen offers. As his senior film got out, new offers arrived, and when he decided on his school, he finished with 39 offers.
The 6-foot-3, 170-pound three-star had high interest in schools like Auburn, Colorado, Louisville and Michigan. But the two schools that stood out the most were Oklahoma State and Virginia Tech. He visited Stillwater late in November, then got to Blacksburg for an official visit early in December. Not long after that, he knew he wanted to be a Hokie.
“After that official visit, I really had that feeling about Virginia Tech,” Fitzgerald told On3. “It just felt right for me when I was there. Before my visit to Virginia Tech, I was thinking I would take more visits, but I knew that was it. I knew where I wanted to be.”
The official visit was Fitzgerald’s second visit to Blacksburg. He was there for the Miami game earlier in the fall and he can’t wait to play in front of that fan base.
“I was at the Michigan vs. Michigan State game and it was louder than that at Virginia Tech. It is the loudest stadium I have ever been to. The fans love their players, Virginia Tech’s football program has great support and it is going to be exciting playing in front of crowds like that.”

Brent Pry is working to get the program back to competing for ACC championships. He is getting his type of players on campus and Fitzgerald likes the direction things are going.
“I am a big believer in coach Pry. I am 100% down with him and I am ready to play for him. He has great passion, he is there for his players and he is going to get Virginia Tech back to the top. He was a big part of my commitment.”
Offensive coordinator Tyler Bowen and wide receivers coach Fontel Mines were critical too. The effort the staff at Virginia Tech put into recruiting the No. 12 prospect in Tennessee paid off.
“It was about the relationships,” Fitzgerald said. “Coach Mines, coach Bowen and coach Pry have been hitting me up every. I have great relationships with them all, I know they really want me and I am ready to help them turn the Virginia Tech program around.”
Fitzgerald will sign with the Hokies on Dec. 21, then enroll next summer.
