Virginia Tech defensive back Jalen Stroman ejected for targeting vs West Virginia
West Virginia was rolling against Virginia Tech Thursday night in the fourth quarter with a 23-point lead. But frustration appeared to set in for the Hokies, as evidenced by a late targeting call.
Jalen Stroman was ejected late in the fourth quarter for targeting after a big hit on West Virginia running back CJ Donaldson. As a result, he’ll miss the first half of Virginia Tech’s next game against North Carolina on Oct. 1.

The West Virginia offense was on full display in the Thursday night showdown, led by quarterback JT Daniels and Donaldson. Daniels completed 20 of 30 passes for 203 yards and a touchdown while Donaldson rushed for 106 yards on the ground to propel the Mountaineers to the 23-10 victory.
West Virginia defensive back Jacolby Spells returns pick six 27 yards to put Virginia Tech away
The West Virginia Mountaineers delivered the knockout punch to the Virginia Tech Hokies in Blacksburg in the fourth quarter Thursday night. Hokies quarterback Grant Wells fired a pass to his receiver, who fell down, and West Virginia freshman defensive back Jacolby Spells snatched the interception, cut across the field and returned it 27 yards for a touchdown.

The pick six officially put the game out of reach for Virginia Tech with 9:36 remaining. The 33-10 West Virginia advantage proved to be the eventual final score as the Mountaineers improved to 2-2 and the Hokies dropped to 2-2.
West Virginia gashed Virginia Tech on the ground all night long, racking up 218 rushing yards thus far. The Mountaineers talented trio of tailbacks have been too much for the Hokies to handle. The largest win for West Virginia at Lane Stadium was a 22-10 victory in 1988 — and Thursday’s victory topped that mark for Neal Brown’s group.
