Virginia Tech Hokies head coach Brent Pry has just revealed his team’s starting quarterback for the 2022 season. According to ACC reporter David Cunningham, Pry announced redshirt junior quarterback Grant Wells as the team starter.

Wells transferred to Virginia Tech after two seasons at Marshall. With the Thundering Herd, his passing ability was on display early and often as he won the starting position in his redshirt freshman year. In the 2020 season, Wells started in 10 games completing 160 of his 270 pass attempts for 2,091 yards with 18 touchdowns and nine interceptions. That performance was good enough to earn him Conference USA freshman of the year honors. The following year, Wells threw for 3,532 yards but regressed in his touchdown to interception ratio throwing 16 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. Both seasons with Wells at the helm, Marshall was able to secure a bowl bid. However, unfortunately for them, came up short in both bowl games.

The redshirt junior beat out fellow transfer Jason Brown, coming in from South Carolina, along with last year’s starting quarterback in the Pinstripe Bowl, Connor Blumrick. Brown started four games for South Carolina last season and is listed as the second quarterback on the Hokies’ depth cart.

EDGE Ishmael Findlayter commits to Virginia Tech

Mississauga (Ontario) Clarkson Football North three-star EDGE Ishmael Findlayter has committed to Virginia Tech. He announced the news on social media.

Findlayter is the No. 1,191 overall prospect and No. 90 EDGE in the 2023 On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. On3 rates him even higher as the No. 57 EDGE in the 2023 class.

The 6-foot-3.5, 230 pound pass rusher is now the 18th member of the Hokies’ 2023 recruiting class. The group currently ranks No. 50 in the 2023 On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings and No. 11 in the ACC.

Findlayter, who chose Virginia Tech over offers from Arizona State and Vanderbilt among others, is the second EDGE prospect committed to Virginia Tech alongside Richmond (Va.) Freeman three-star Jason Abbey. Other defensive prospects committed to the Hokies include Indianapolis (Ind.) Decatur Central three-star linebacker Aycen Stevens, Greenville (S.C.) Powdersville three-star safety Thomas Williams and Richmond (Va.) Trinity Episcopal School three-star cornerback Cameren Fleming.
