Virginia Tech linebacker Tavorian Copeland enters NCAA transfer portal
Virginia Tech linebacker Tavorian Copeland has entered his name into the NCAA transfer portal, On3’s Pete Nakos has learned. Copeland was a redshirt freshman for the Hokies this past season.
A three-star prospect coming out of Appomattox County High School in Appomattox, Va., Copeland was among the top 50 players in his home state of Virginia. he chose to play for the Hokies over offers from Virginia, William and Mary, and Richmond, among others.
Just a true freshman during the 2023 season, Copeland did not see any game action for Virginia Tech. Rather, Copeland took a redshirt and watched from the sidelines. Now, he will look for a new home to continue his college football career.

Virginia Tech in the transfer portal
The spring transfer portal window opened up for college athletes this past week and Copeland is not the first Hokie to put his name into the portal. In fact, there have now been five total players opt to enter their name into the transfer portal since this new window opened up.
Copeland was the second player from the defensive side of the ball to enter the transfer portal. Prior to him, cornerback Antonio Cotman Jr. entered his name into the portal.
The Hokies come off of a 7-6 season that ended in a win in the Military Bowl under second-year head coach Brent Pry. In his two seasons with the Hokies, Pry has compiled a record of 10-14 and 1-0 in bowl games. He looks to build on the momentum with his program in the 2024 season.
