WATCH: Virginia Tech OF Jack Hurley hits inside the park home run against College of Charleston
The 14th-ranked Virginia Tech Hokies’ baseball team is in the second game of their three-game series this weekend against the College of Charleston. With two people out in the top of the sixth inning and his team trailing 3-1, Hokies’ outfielder Jack Hurley decided to make things a little wild in Charleston. He blasted a pop fly all the way back to the warning track, only to have it bobbled by a College of Charleston outfielder, which allowed him to achieve the rare feat of an inside-the-park home run.
Check out the wild play below.
It was a two-run inside the park homer, which tied the game up at 3-3 in the top of the sixth inning. Virginia Tech went on to dominate College of Charleston, 12-3. So, Hurley’s homerun proved to be a catalyst to get the Hokies’ offense rolling on Saturday afternoon. They scored 11 unanswered runs to dominate the Cougars in the second game of the series.
Jack Hurley had an impressive freshman season last year
In 2021, Hurley was named freshman All-American by College Baseball Nation. He appeared in 51 games for the Hokies, starting 45 of those in the outfield. Hurley ranked second on the team in runs scored (40), tied for third in doubles (10), and fourth in home runs (six).

Added context or controversy
At State College High School, Hurley earned letters all four seasons of his high school baseball career. A gifted athlete, he also played small forward for State College’s basketball team.
Virginia Tech is currently the defending ACC Coastal Division Champions. Last year, they had the best regular season record in the ACC (19-9 overall). Their 19 wins were a program record for the ACC regular season. They also earned a No. 4 seed in the 2022 NCAA Tournament, the highest mark ever achieved in Hokie baseball history.
They should be one of the more impressive teams in college baseball to watch this season, yet again.
