Virginia Tech WR Chance Fitzgerald enters NCAA transfer portal
Virginia Tech wide receiver Chance Fitzgerald entered the NCAA transfer portal, according to On3’s Pete Nakos.
Fitzgerald did not record any stats this season. While at wide receiver, Fitzgerald played special teams and logged a tackle during the 2023 season.
As a member of the Class of 2023, Fitzgerald was a three-star recruit out of Nolensville (Tenn.) High, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was the No. 11 overall prospect in the state, the No. 67 wide receiver in the class and the No. 464 overall prospect in the class.

Prior to Virginia Tech, Fitzgerald was an intriguing prospect.
He had high interest in schools like Auburn, Colorado, Louisville and Michigan. But the two schools that stood out the most were Oklahoma State and Virginia Tech during the recruiting process. He visited Stillwater late in November of 2022, then got to Blacksburg for an official visit early in December. Not long after that, he knew he wanted to be a Hokie.

“After that official visit, I really had that feeling about Virginia Tech,” Fitzgerald told On3’s Chad Simmons. “It just felt right for me when I was there. Before my visit to Virginia Tech, I was thinking I would take more visits, but I knew that was it. I knew where I wanted to be.”
Fitzgerald was big on head coach Brent Pry.
“I am a big believer in coach Pry,” Fitzgerald said. “I am 100% down with him and I am ready to play for him. He has great passion, he is there for his players and he is going to get Virginia Tech back to the top. He was a big part of my commitment.”
