Wake Forest transfer wide receiver Donavon Greene commits to Virginia Tech

The Virginia Tech Hokies got a pretty big commitment out of the transfer portal on Friday night. They landed the services of former Wake Forest star wideout Donavon Greene. He hauled in 102 catches for 1,853 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns for the Demon Deacons since 2019. He’ll bring in a steady, veteran presence to the Hokies’ receiver room. Greene announced the move on his Instagram page.
In 2024 as a redshirt junior, he saw action in eight games, finishing with 23 catches for 380 yards and three touchdowns.
Greene has shown improvement throughout his career, culminating in a phenomenal 2022 season. In 2022, he snagged 37 receptions for 642 yards and six touchdowns. Over the course of his career, Greene has proven to be a talented deep threat.
Greene arrived on Wake Forest’s campus since 2019, making him a key presence on the roster. He played four games in 2019, preserving his redshirt before the pandemic-impacted season that allowed him to retain an extra year of eligibility. He then came into the 2021 season with high expectations but ultimately missed the entire season due to injuries.

On top of his skills at wide receiver, Greene also returned kicks and was phenomenal at it for Wake Forest.
Greene played his high school football at Mount Airy (Mount Airy, North Carolina). A highly touted prospect, he was named second team All-USA North Carolina. He was also invited to the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas, becoming the first player in 35 years from Mount Airy to do so. Greene helped guide the Granite Bears to a 12-1 record and the Class 1-AA state quarterfinals. He hauled in 56 catches for 1,257 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns. The North Carolina native also scored four times on the defensive side of the ball.
In 2018, he had five interceptions and a team-high seven pass breakups, including three interceptions in a single game. A dynamic athlete, Greene lettered in football, basketball, and track. In track and field, he tallied a 6-foot-4 high jump and a 20-11 long jump, while also running a leg on the state championship 4 x 200 relay team.
