WATCH: Virginia Tech women's basketball celebrates first Final Four in program history
Virginia Tech defeated Ohio State on Monday night to advance to its first-ever Final Four with an 84-74 win.
Entering this year’s NCAA Tournament, the program had only advanced to the Sweet 16 once in 1999.
Elizabeth Kitley — the two-time ACC Player of the Year — had a double-double with 25 points and 24 rebounds plus three blocks while Georgia Amoore had 24 points on 7 of 19 shooting. It was Kitley’s 56th career double-double.
Kitley averaged a double-double on the season with 18.2 points and 10.7 rebounds while shooting 55.7% from the field. Amoore is second on the team in scoring with 16.3 points per game and 5.0 assists.
The No. 1-seeded Hokies advanced out of the Seattle Regional 3 by winning every game by at least nine points. The closest one team got to defeating them was in the Sweet 16 when they won by only nine points over Tennessee.
They are also the ACC tournament champions and have not lost since Jan. 26 against Duke. That is a stretch of 15 games.

Virginia Tech is the last of the teams to earn its slot in the Final Four, which will be played this weekend in Dallas at American Airlines Arena. The other three are Iowa, LSU and South Carolina.
The Gamecocks also won Monday night with a victory over Maryland. They will play the Hawkeyes in the Final Four while the Hokies will play the Tigers.
South Carolina head coach Dawn Staley said after her game Monday that she hopes LSU will win their game so they can have an All-SEC National Championship Game.
“I’m gonna to shout out to the SEC,” she said. “SEC is well-represented in the Final Four. Shout out to LSU. Let’s go do this thing. Let’s have an all-SEC finals.”
The National Championship Game will be played at 3:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
