West Virginia transfer offensive lineman Tomas Rimac committed to the Virginia Tech Hokies on Thursday night, according to Pete Thamel of ESPN. Rimac was an honorable mention All-Big 12 guard and has started 28 career games. He followed his offensive line coach Matt Moore, who just landed at Virginia Tech from WVU.

West Virginia recently fired head coach Neal Brown, and replaced him with WVU legend Rich Rodriguez.

In 2023, Rimac earned honorable mention All-Big 12 honors from the coaches. He also missed the Houston and Oklahoma State games with a leg injury. Rimac finished the year with 21 knockdown blocks and racked up the second-most great blocks on the team (63). He also tallied a season-high five knockdowns against Pitt and at the UCF Knights. Rimac played a critical part on the offensive line that led the Power Five in rushing yards per game (228.9) and ranked third nationally in fewest sacks allowed (10).

The West Virginia Mountaineers finished 6-7 overall this year, falling 42-37 to the Memphis Tigers in the Scooter’s Coffee Frisco Bowl. They started out the season 3-4 overall, but managed to finish the season off winning three of their next six. The Mountaineers made a coaching switch this offseason, and WVU legend Rich Rodriguez is back in Morgantown.

The Virginia Tech Hokies finished the regular season 6-6 overall. They’ll face off against the Minnesota Golden Gophers in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl on Friday, January 3rd. The Hokies throttled the Virginia Cavaliers 37-17 in Blacksburg. Pop Watson III threw for 254 yards and one touchdown in the win. And running back Bhayshul Tuten finished with 124 rushing yards and two touchdowns.

VT’s overall record is a bit deceiving, as they lost a number of close games including Vanderbilt, Rutgers, Miami, Syracuse, and Duke. They lost all of those by touchdown or less. And the ending of the Miami game was one of the more controversial finishes of the 2024 college football season.
