West Virginia transfer OL Gavin Crawford commits to Virginia Tech

West Virginia Mountaineers offensive lineman Gavin Crawford commits to transfer to the Virginia Tech Hokies, On3 has learned. He announced the decision on social media.
Gavin Crawford was a three-star recruit in the Class of 2025, according to the On3 Industry Ranking. In that recruiting cycle, he was the 1,084th-ranked player overall and the 99th-ranked interior offensive lineman after playing his high school football at Good Counsel in Maryland.
Initially out of high school, there were several ACC teams who recruited Crawford. That included Pitt, Duke, and Syracuse. He took visits at several other power conference schools coming out of high school.
This comes after former West Virginia offensive line coach Matt Moore left to take the same role at Virginia Tech following turnover at the head coaching position. He’s not alone, either, following Tomas Rimac, Kyle Altuner, and Lucas Austin who are all offensive linemen who have left West Virginia for Virginia Tech in the Transfer Portal. Altuner, notably, was a high school teammate of Gavin Crawford.
West Virginia is coming off a 6-7 season with a 5-4 record in Big 12 play. Following that frustrating season, the Mountaineers moved on from head coach Neal Brown and brought in Rich Rodriguez for his second tenure leading the program.

Unsurprisingly, the coaching change has also led to a lot of turnover in the Transfer Portal. The Mountaineers have the 57th-ranked class this transfer cycle, according to the On3 2025 College Football Team Transfer Portal Rankings, with a class that has lost 41 players and added 37 new ones.
Virginia Tech has undergone its own changes along the coaching staff this offseason. That includes a change at offensive coordinator, with head coach Brent Pry bringing in Philip Montgomery following a season where the Hokies went 6-7, losing their bowl game.
In the Transfer Portal, Virginia Tech has the 20th-ranked class this cycle. While not as active as West Virginia, they have made several major changes. That includes seeing 30 players transfer out and another 21 transfer into the program already this offseason. That number already includes Gavin Crawford. He’s one of four incoming offensive linemen, and all of those are from West Virginia. The Hokies have also lost six offensive linemen to the Transfer Portal.
