WATCH: Andrew Carr drills turnaround fadeway at the buzzer to lift Wake Forest to win over Appalachian State
The Wake Forest Demon Deacons needed some late game heroics to avoid what would have been an embarrassing loss to the Appalachian State Mountaineers on Wednesday night. They got exactly what they needed and right when they need it, from their forward Andrew Carr. With 1.3 seconds remaining and his team down 66-65, Carr caught the inbounds pass from Cameron Hildreth, immediately turned around and shot a fadeway that hit nothing but net. The clock expired right before the game-winner went through the hoop, and Carr’s Demon Deacon teammates piled on top of him to celebrate.
Check it out.
Carr poured in 20 points in carrying his team to the heart-stopping victory. He drilled three of his five three-point attempts. Carr also dished out two assists and grabbed five rebounds in the win.
It certainly wasn’t a pretty win, but no matter how they got it, Wake Forest will certainly take it.
A win is a win in college basketball. Truly anything can happen on the college hardwood, as it’s built for chaos more than any other sport out there. The Demon Deacons got extremely lucky to come away with the win, because Appalachian State turned the ball over in the final seconds to give Wake Forest the final possession of the game.

Terence Harcum drilled a three-pointer with 14 seconds left to give the Mountaineers a 66-65 lead.
Wake Forest had four scorers in double figures, including Tyree Appleby, who pumped in 15 points and dished out four assists. Appleby hit the transfer portal this offseason and suited up for the Florida Gators before joining the Demon Deacons.
Wake Forest trailed after the first half, 37-31, but outscored the Mountaineers 36-29 in the second half to squeak out the one-point win. The game was a very back-and-forth affair, with both teams trading the lead 15 times on Wednesday night. To open the game, App State came out firing, hitting 17 of their first 25 shots.
Next up, Wake Forest will face off against Rutgers on Dec. 17. Tip-off for that one is slated for noon EST. The game will be televised on the Big Ten Network.
