Wake Forest's Brock Wilken shares special moment with fan in Omaha
Wake Forest slugger Brock Wilken gave a young fan a memory of a lifetime after the Demon Deacons knocked off LSU in Omaha on Monday.
A kid in the crowd sporting a Wake Forest baseball shirt was captured on TV holding up a sign that read “I wanna be like Brock!” The sign was a spin off of the old Gatorade commercial featuring Michael Jordan, which had the catchphrase: “I wanna be like Mike.”
Wilken tweeted following the game: “Someone find me this boy! Got a special something for him.”
Tuesday morning, the Wake Forest Baseball Twitter page posted a photo of the young fan and Wilken. The fan is holding Wilken’s cleats, which are autographed. Wilken quote tweeted the picture with the caption: “Some things are just bigger than baseball!”
Brock Wilken is a pretty good player for kids to want to emulate.
The junior is hitting .357 with 31 home runs and 82 RBIs. He is tied for the most home runs in the country, alongside Florida’s Jac Caglianone. He is also No. 10 nationally in RBIs.
Wilken was 1-for-4 with an RBI as Wake Forest beat LSU 3-2 on Monday. After another productive day at the plate, he made a young fan’s day off the field.
Tom Walter considers what comeback efforts say about Wake Forest’s character
Wake Forest star Brock Wilken showed a lot about his character by giving his cleats to a young fan following Monday night’s game. Earlier in the night, coach Tom Walter believes his Demon Deacons team showed plenty about the character of the entire club.

Lighting struck twice for Wake Forest in Omaha, as yet again the Demon Deacons pulled off a comeback win at the College World Series.
After scoring two runs in the eighth inning to come from behind and beat Stanford 3-2 in their first game of the CWS, Wake Forest scored a clutch run in the eighth inning yet again on Monday versus LSU to defeat the Tigers 3-2 as well.
The Demon Deacons have been having a dominant and historic season all year, with numerous lopsided victories over opponents throughout their undefeated postseason run. But their ability to come from behind in close games shows off a newer skill, and after their most recent win, Walter spoke on what that ability says about his team.
“We talked about it before the tournament started,” Walter said. “We do have the ability to win games in different ways because of all our pitching and defense we can win the 3-2 game. Because of our offense, we can win the 8-6, or 10-8 game. That’s one of the things I really like about this club. … We’re a tough team, tough minded team. We don’t quit. We don’t give up. These guys, as you saw when they were talking today, they don’t want to let each other down. And that’s such a powerful motivator in these situations.”
