Report: Mitch Griffis to return from injury to start vs. Florida State
Wake Forest will have starting quarterback Mitch Griffis back for today’s game against No. 4 Florida State, according to a report from ESPN. ESPN’s Pete Thamel reports that Griffis will start after missing last week’s game with an undisclosed injury.
Griffis had started the team’s previous six games, to mixed results. The sophomore has been a little boom or bust and turnovers have been an issue at times.
The Wake Forest quarterback has gone 100-of-169 passing (59.2%) for 1,211 yards with nine touchdowns and six interceptions. He’s also rushed for 79 yards.
He’ll be available for Wake Forest, which had to rely on backup Santino Marucci against Pittsburgh last week. Marucci finished his lone start 12-of-21 passing for 151 yards, with one touchdown and two interceptions.
Wake Forest and Florida State are scheduled for a noon ET kickoff on ABC.
Johnny Wilson out for Florida State
While the news is positive for Mitch Griffis and Wake Forest, it’s decidedly less positive for Florida State on the injury front.

A trio of Florida State players will almost certainly be out today against Wake Forest, including star receiver Johnny Wilson.
The Tallahassee Democrat reports that Wilson, as well as Destyn Hill and Hykeem Williams, did not participate in the team’s warmups prior to the Wake Forest game on Saturday morning and appear to be out.
Wilson has dealt with injuries throughout the season, missing a few games.
He missed the team’s second contest against Southern Miss, then missed the Syracuse game two weeks ago with an injury. He returned last weekend against Duke, but then he suffered a leg injury that knocked him out of that contest.
Wilson has been a major receiving threat for quarterback Jordan Travis when healthy.
He has logged 25 catches for 415 yards and two touchdowns on the season.
