Seth Davis criticizes Wake Forest after Kyle Filipowski injured in court storming
CBS Sports analyst Seth Davis believes Wake Forest needs to take responsibility after Saturday’s court storming incident against Duke. Following a 83-79 upset of the No. 8 Blue Devils, fans exited their seats and piled onto the court in celebration.
Unfortunately, what should have been a fun experience quickly took a turn for the worse. A Demon Deacons fan appeared to clip Duke forward Kyle Filipowski as he was making his way off the court. He was injured as a result as coach Jon Scheyer and several of members of the Blue Devils staff rushed over to help him off.
Davis took to Twitter shortly after to question why Wake Forest didn’t do more to get the Duke players off the court safely.
“Wake Forest University knows that if the Deacs win the game the fans will storm the court,” he wrote. “It’s their responsibility to make sure the opposing players and coaches get off safely. Where was the security? It’s a shame that this mars what was a terrific win by that team.
Wake Forest likely was prepared for the possibility of winning, as it entered the game as a 2.5-point favorite. The Demon Deacons are considered a bubble team in the NCAA Tournament, and this is a victory which could push them into the field of 68.

Still, this only adds fuel to the debate over whether court storming should be allowed in college basketball. Certainly player safety is among the top concerns, and hopefully the injury to Filipowski is not too serious in nature.
Davis weighed in with his opinion on the matter later during the CBS halftime show, stating that he believes court storming should be banned.
“We have to make the decision, ‘are we gonna ban court storms or are we gonna manage them?'” Davis said. “I’ve never liked court storms. The court is for people who earned the right to be there. Players and coaches. The fans have not earned the right to be there. I’ve been against court storms for a long time. We can see this type of thing coming.
“I kind of backed off it and said, ‘OK, we’ll have the court storms, just make sure there’s enough security there to get the opposing teams off.’ That’s just not in place. Huge turnover by Wake Forest University, which obviously knew if Wake Forest was gonna win the game this was gonna happen. If we made the decision in the sport collectively to get rid of court storms, it could be done. People just don’t have the gumption to do that and I frankly wish they would.”
