4-star defensive lineman Anthony James commits to Washington
Wylie (Texas) East defensive lineman Anthony James has committed to Washington on his official visit this weekend, he announced Friday afternoon.
James is the No. 173 overall prospect in the 2023 class, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He ranks as the nation’s No. 23 defensive lineman and the No. 28 senior player in the state of Texas.
A one-time Texas A&M verbal, James decommitted from the Aggies last month after being the first commitment in their 2023 class.

“I am grateful for the love that I’ve received in College Station from Texas A&M staff and fans alike, so l do not take this decision lightly. But at this time I wish to withdraw my commitment,” Anthony James said at the time. “There are no assumptions to be made and no conclusions to be drawn. I will spend the summer traveling the country and exploring the vast opportunities afforded to me in this once in a lifetime process. When a decision has been made, I will again make an announcement.”
He recently named his top two schools — Auburn and Washington — and tripped to Auburn last weekend for an official visit. However, according to intel from AuburnLive, the Tigers backed off their pursuit in recent days before his commitment.
