It was different game, same loss for Washington on Friday in their latest outing which was their sixth consecutive one.

Following the 65-60 defeat to UCLA, Danny Sprinkle said it wasn’t much different than some of the other nine that they’ve had so far during his debut season in Seattle.

“You know, it seems like the same old story,” Sprinkle said postgame.

Most of Sprinkle’s point had to do with what the Huskies aren’t doing on the offensive end.

For example, in the five-point loss to the Bruins, Washington shot just 41.5% overall, including several spells without much scoring in both halves, and turned the ball over 14 times. You can find much of the same trends in all of their losses as they’re scoring 63.7 ppg. on 40.2% shooting from the field while having 12.9 turnovers in the 10 on their record.

With that, Washington might be playing as hard as they need to but they’re not doing enough to actually win in the end.

“You know, like, I applaud our guys for competing and playing hard. You know, I thought we scrapped. I mean, we’re much better than we were a month, month and a half ago. And I told the team this week. It’s, like, you have to reward yourself, though. You know, like, you have to play hard but you also have to play smart and we just do some crazy things, you know,” said Sprinkle. “We just do some, we just do some bonehead stuff that’s costing us. You know, we’re playing too good of, too good of teams and too high of a level to have some of the turnovers that we have and some of the, the scoring droughts that we have. You know, you can only mask it for so long.”

“This whole month, other than the Michigan State game? You know, like, we’ve put ourselves in position to win in the last eight minutes of the game and then we just have some scoring lulls where we’re not taking great shots. We have some really bad turnovers, trying to force things. Or we’ll have a, you know, I thought there was, you know – they missed a couple shots, you know, two tonight, where our guards didn’t, they didn’t come up with the loose ball somehow, someway. You have to find a way to do that,” Sprinkle said. “Until we do that, you know, we’re going to have the same result. Like I said, I mean, we’re not, we’re not talented enough to not do that. Like, we have to go above and beyond this year. But it just, it hurts for the guys because, like, they are playing hard, man.”

At .500 now, the Husky’s current read isn’t much with them in dead last in the Big Ten. They can rewrite some of it, though, over this next month with no ranked opponents on the schedule, including their next one this weekend in Minneapolis.

“You know, like, it’s, it comes down to, you know, like – at some point, we’re going to break through. But we also have to do what winning entails, and that includes playing smart, taking care of the basketball,” Sprinkle said.

“They’re competing. But there’s a lot more to – you’ve got to do a lot more than that to win,” said Sprinkle.
