Former East Tennessee State guard Quimari Peterson has signed with Washington, via the NCAA Transfer Portal, On3 has learned. He initially entered the portal on March 17.

Peterson spent two seasons at East Tennessee State, where he amassed 67 appearances, all of which he started in. He averaged a career-high 19.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game this season while shooting 46.8% from the field and 42.2% from beyond the arc.

For his efforts, Peterson was named the 2024-25 Southern Conference Player of the Year. He is ETSU’s first SoCon Player of the Year since the 2017-18 season.

Before transferring to East Tennessee State, Peterson spent one season at Indiana State. While there, he only played in four games, averaging just 8.8 minutes per game.

Peterson played high school basketball at West Side (IN), where he was an unranked prospect, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He led West Side to a 22-5 record and the program’s first sectional and regional titles since 2004 in the state semifinals.

Now, Quimari Peterson is hungry to reach new heights at his first Power Four program. He isn’t the first player to join the Huskies this offseason. Former Rutgers center Lathan Sommerville also committed to Washington in the transfer portal earlier this month.

Sommerville made 32 appearances and 15 starts in his lone season at Rutgers. He averaged 8.2 points, 4.1 rebounds and 0.6 blocks per game while shooting 50.6% from the field. He only shot nine 3-pointers this season and made one.

Sommerville perhaps had his best game of the season in Rutgers’ season-ending loss to USC in the Big Ten Tournament. In the loss, Sommerville recorded 16 points and five rebounds on 6-11 shooting from the floor.

Washington will need all the players it can find. Seven Washington players have already entered the transfer portal this offseason after head coach Danny Sprinkle led the Huskies to a 13-18 overall record and a 4-16 mark in conference play in his debut campaign at the helm.

With their poor conference record, Washington didn’t qualify for the Big Ten Tournament. With players like Sommerville and Peterson on his roster, Danny Sprinkle will look to help the Huskies take a massive step forward next season.
