Newly hired Washington coach Jedd Fisch is excited to get going in Seattle. With the Huskies making the news official Sunday evening, the coach is on his way from Arizona.

Fisch posted a video to his Twitter account of himself getting ready to board a flight. He addressed Washington fans for the first time, expressing his eagerness to hit the ground running. You can view the moment below.

“Husky nation, coach Fisch here. Boarding a plane to Seattle right now and just can’t wait to see you, meet you, meet our players,” he said. “Let’s go get that championship we’ve been talking about. All right, boys. Husky nation, we’ll see you soon.”

Fisch spent the past three seasons coaching the Wildcats. They went just 1-11 in his inaugural season before improving to 5-7 in 2022. This year, however, was the true breakthrough.

Arizona finished the season 10-3 and earned a trip to the Alamo Bowl, where it defeated Oklahoma by a score of 38-24. Not only was it the Wildcats’ first bowl victory since 2015, but the 10 wins is the most they’ve reached since the 2014 season.

Arizona’s offense ranked No. 8 in the country in passing yards per game (308.3) and No. 18 in points per game (34.6). Receiver Jacob Cowing set a single-season program record with 13 touchdown catches, while his teammate Tetairoa McMillan led the team with 1,402 yards.

Fisch is set to take over a Washington team coming off of an appearance in the national championship. The Huskies are also set to move into the Big Ten next season as the College Football Playoff expands to 12 teams.

He’ll have to make up for the losses of quarterback Michael Penix Jr. and receiver Rome Odunze, but perhaps he can get some of his players to follow him from Arizona. Either way, he’s excited to try to keep the momentum going heading into 2024.

Jedd Fisch pens goodbye letter to Arizona

Shortly after posting the video, Fisch tweeted a goodbye message to the Wildcats players he coaches as well as fans who supported him for the past three seasons.

“When I first arrived at U of A, I knew we could create something special — because of the people at this university and in this community,” he wrote. “Today, I am broken hearted to leave not just Arizona, but the people who have given us so much and believed in the magic we created.

“I absolutely loved my time as a Wildcat and never thought my family and I would ever leave. Unfortunately, that day has come. It was a gut-wrenching and agonizing decision. But, I am proud to leave everything in a better place than when I came. My goal was to return the pride and make winning personal here. And, we did.”

“…I will always carry this time in Tucson close to my heart,” Fisch continued. “My family’s time in Tucson has been life changing for us all. Amber, my daughters and I have this proud community to thank. I may be leaving U of A, but the friendships and love for this university and community will stay with me forever.”
