Jedd Fisch backs Will Rogers amid cries for Demond Williams
With Washington at 4-4 after two straight losses, the Huskies have some who’d want to look to the future, specifically at quarterback. Still, Jedd Fisch knows how he wants that position to look with his plan.
Fisch discussed the conversation between Will Rogers and Demond Williams in his press conference on Monday. He maintained that Rogers, the fifth-year veteran, is best for them now while Williams, the true freshman, will be what’s best for them later on.
“You know, I think that, right now, Will continues to give us the best chance,” said Fisch. “He has completed 73% of his passes…He’s thrown four picks all year, maybe you add, subtract one.”
“Demond’s improvement has been, you know, really good for the last eight weeks. Each week, he has gotten better. Each week, he has gotten more comfortable. When he goes in the game, he’s more comfortable going in,” Fisch said. “You know, Demond is going to be ready to take this team over at some point in time.”
Rogers is 172-238 (72.3%) in passing for 2,022 yards, 13 touchdowns, and four interceptions. However, in their consecutive, double-digit losses over the last three weeks, he has averaged just less than 200 yards in those for one touchdown and three of his picks while also losing a fumble for four total turnovers.

Williams has been the backup for the Huskies. In his opportunities, he is 26-34 (76.5%) for 242 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions. That includes being 12-16 (75%) for 71 yards and a touchdown in his time during their recent loss this month at Iowa.
Still, Fisch knows right now isn’t the time for a quarterback change. He’s sticking to his idea for this season with Rogers while continuing to plan for what’s to come with Williams.
“Right now, Will has done a really nice job,” Fisch said.
“Demond is going to be special. Demond will be the face of Washington Football, you know, moving forward next year but he’s going to continue to get reps throughout this season like he has,” said Fisch.
