Louisville defeated Washington 35-34 in the Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl after a failed two-point conversion attempt from the Huskies.

Demond Williams Jr. connected with Giles Jackson with nine seconds left in regulation. Washington had the choice to kick themselves into overtime, or decide the game outright in regulation. Head coach Jedd Fisch opted to go for the win, and it backfired. He explained the reasoning behind the decision during his postgame press conference.

“We’re really proud of our guys, it’s unfortunate the way it went down at the end, but we were going in here for the win, we weren’t going in here for the tie,” Fisch said. “That’s kind of where we’re at, so at this point, I want to wish everyone a happy New Year and wish everybody a fantastic 2025 as we are certainly looking forward to 2025 as Huskies as well.”

Washington finished 6-7 during the 2024 season, which was highlighted by a 27-17 win over a No. 10-ranked Michigan team in October. After the upset win, they would go on to drop five of their next seven games before the end of the season including three of the last four.

Still, Fisch is confident he can turn his Huskies program into a contender in the Big Ten Conference moving forward.

“We will always remember this team, this season, as our first,” Fisch said. “Getting here in January, we still haven’t even been here a year and to be around this team, these guys have just been so special and they definitely laid the foundation for a team that is going to fight.

“They’re a team that’s going to play extremely hard, a team that has an elite freshman playing quarterback, and a team that is going to be battling every year to be in playoff games.”

Demond Williams, a former Arizona commit who followed Fisch to Washington threw for 944 yards, eight touchdowns and one interception, and was also a rushing threat with two more touchdowns and 282 rushing yards to his credit as well. All signs point toward him having a breakout sophomore campaign in 2025.

Washington will kick its 2025 season on Aug. 30 against Colorado State live inside Husky Stadium. They also have the likes of Ohio State, Michigan and Oregon on their schedule for next season.
