Jedd Fisch reveals usage plan for Will Rogers in Washington bowl game
This past season at Washington didn’t go according to plan for Will Rogers, Jedd Fisch and the Huskies, but they’re hoping to finish strong in the Sun Bowl.
Their opponent is the Louisville Cardinals. Evidently, Rogers is focusing on preparing for the NFL, while also helping budding-star quarterback Demond Williams Jr. as he readies for a tough ACC opponent, as Fisch revealed the plan for the veteran quarterback for the New Year’s Eve clash earlier this week.
“Just was with Will in my office, talking about life. Talking about his future, and how proud I am of him. He’s going to continue to compete. He’s going to continue to make Demond better,” Fisch revealed, via Washington’s bowl selection press conference. “Demond will start, and we’ll do the same thing we did with the reps that we did leading up to Oregon, where it’s about a 75-25 percent split, the way we practice. Then, Will runs about 75 percent of the scout team, and 25 percent of our starting reps. He’s going to continue to work on all of the things that will help him, as he begins to train for the NFL. Weight room, speed, accuracy, doing all the individual fundamentals, being a part of a great nutrition program, and continue to learn the game.
“We will continue to rely upon Will, that if God forbid something happened, regarding injury or what not, Will is ready to walk in, play, be the starter and help us win the game. But right now, it’s Demond’s team, and Demond will use this month of December to really put his foot down.”

When Rogers chose the Huskies, they were in a much different position than the situation the quarterback ended up playing for. Still, he saw it through, and performed well for the first-year Big Ten squad.
Moving forward, it remains to be seen what his future is in the NFL, but Will Rogers will always be appreciated for the time he spent with Washington, even if it was only one season.
