First it was Nick Foles and now apparently Michael Penix Jr. was blessed with a unique, well, nickname, per Desmond Howard.

The Washington Huskies quarterback is firmly in the Heisman Trophy race due to his big arm. No, we’re not assuming anything here, what do you think we’re going for? Howard is the one who had well, we’ll just say, an interesting chant during College GameDay Saturday morning.

Watch below and be amazed or chant along if you must, to Howard getting the Washington crowd rowdy for its quarterback.

This should serve as a reminder to carefully write out Michael Penix Jr. and spell it correctly. Although if Foles was any indication for the Eagles when he won the Super Bowl, his teammates blessed him with quite the nickname after the biggest win in franchise history, so maybe Penix Jr. will do the same.

You’ll have to look up Foles’ nickname for yourself.

If Washington is to defeat Oregon at home and get one of the biggest wins of the college football season, they’ll need Penix Jr. at his best. Big Penix Jr. energy, right Des?

Michael Penix Jr. ready to rock against Oregon

Head coach Kalen DeBoer spoke about how ideal Washington’s offense is to work with during his appearance on ‘The Pat McAfee Show’ on Friday. All he could do was smile a bit as he openly admitted that the nation’s third-best offense makes games easier to handle overall.

“It’s set up pretty well,” DeBoer admitted. “I will have to say that.”

DeBoer also said it leans on Penix Jr. as a student and coach on the field with his knowledge of the system. Add in three, big-play receivers to work with and the system that the Huskies are running obviously just hums.

“When Michael came in, the other piece too is not just his skillset but him having a pretty good dose of the offensive system back in 2019 when we were together. Then that carrying on what he was a part of there at Indiana,” DeBoer said. “When he came in, he was like an extra coach on the football field.

“Then, like you said, surrounding him with Jalen McMillan, Ja’Lynn Polk, Rome Odunze? I mean those guys are just special. Every day, they keep getting better. I still don’t think we’ve seen what they’re capable of.”

As the engine of it, Penix Jr. has thrown for a yard shy of 2,000 through the air. That pairs well with a near 75% completion rate and 16 touchdowns.
