Michael Penix Jr. reveals why he spent time in injury tent
Despite entering the injury tent for a moment during Washington’s 36-33 win over Oregon, Michael Penix Jr. feels fantastic. After the game, the Huskies’ quarterback revealed the reason behind his brief absence.
“Nothing major. It was just a little cramp, but I’m good. Nothing bad,” Penix said. “I’m going to push through anything and nothing was going to take me out of that game, so I was ready to play.”
Penix did more than play. He dominated. In the win, Penix tallied 302 passing yards and four touchdowns while only throwing one interception. The massive performance is just another bullet point in Penix’s impressive resumé.
In five games this season, Penix has amassed 2,301 passing yards and 20 touchdowns while completing 73.1% of his pass attempts. Penix’s 383.5 passing yards per game are the most in the country. Washington’s offensive figures reflect Penix’s individual success.
The Huskies boast the No. 3 offense in the nation, averaging 543.7 yards per outing. Despite leading the high-powered offense, Penix refused to take credit for his team’s win on Saturday.
“I’ve just got to give credit to the man upstairs and thank God for everything,” Penix told ABC’s Holly Rowe. “He put me through it and allowed me to get to the spot I am today. It was a tough game, but I knew we would be able to pull it off. We just had to keep executing and keep pushing. I’m just super excited.

“It means the world,” Penix said. “I had, like, 20 people come — 22 people came to support me from my family. I appreciate them, they come support all the time. The rest of Huskie Nation, always supporting. I’m just so proud of this team and I just thank God for everything that He’s allowed me to have.”
Paul Finebaum praises Washington
Not everybody will match Penix’s humility. Following Washington’s narrow win over the Ducks, Paul Finebaum claimed the Huskies will win the Pac-12.
“I’m pretty confident after yesterday, but that game was at home and it did take some unbelievably bizarre coaching by Dan Lanning to put them in that position,” Finebaum said on SportsCenter Sunday morning. “They will likely play again. If you thought yesterday was the biggest game of the year, just wait until the Pac-12 Championship.
“I was No. 1 on the list to declare the Pac-12 officially dead after Oregon and Washington bailed, and so did everyone else. But right now, it’s the most exciting and best league in college football.”
