Rece Davis won't be surprised if Washington enters College Football Playoff undefeated
The goal for every team each season is to go undefeated, especially after the final game of the year. However, while almost no team achieves that, Rece Davis believes No. 5 Washington has a legitimate shot at it, at least by the time they would potentially be entering the College Football Playoff.
Davis continued his compliments of the Huskies on the ‘College GameDay Podcast’ this week. To him, they proved were, ever so slightly, the better team than Oregon last Saturday in Seattle and they put a big-play ability on display that he thinks could translate to the postseason.
“I do believe both teams can win it all but I think the better team won the game. That doesn’t always happen. I don’t know that Washington necessarily played better or just made more plays. And I know that, in some people’s estimation, that might be a distinction without a difference. But they made the big plays when they needed to, they made downfield plays – which is part of their DNA and it’s how they win games,” said Davis. “I think if there are shortcomings when they faced a Georgia or a Michigan anywhere? That is the great equalizer. That’s the way the game is played these days.”
“I feel like the slightly – by a hair – better team won the game on Saturday,” Davis said.
Another reason that Davis feels better about Washington than some others is they have a serviceable enough defense to pair with their top-tier offense.
“They have enough on defense,” said Davis. “I think they’re not USC by any stretch of the imagination on defense. They’re not some of the old-school Oklahoma teams.”

Washington has six games to go, seven if you include the Pac-12 title game in Las Vegas, before they attain what Davis is suggesting. That also means three wins, and very likely four, over teams that are currently in the Top-25.
Even so, Davis is high enough on the Huskies that even a rematch against the Ducks might not stop them from reaching the playoff at 13-0.
“Could Oregon get them again in the Pac-12 Championship, which I fully expect to see? Sure, they could. But it’s not going to be surprising to me if Washington goes into the playoff undefeated,” Davis said. “They’re a handful.”
