Report: Washington lands former Mississippi State QB Will Rogers out of transfer portal
Prized transfer quarterback Will Rogers has selected a new home for the 2024 season. After a long tenure in Starkville as the Mississippi State starter, Rogers entered the portal this offseason and has now picked a new school.
According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, Rogers has committed to Washington, where he’ll have some extremely big shoes to fill as the likely option to replace Michael Penix at QB1 for the Huskies next fall.
Over four seasons in Starkville, Will Rogers threw for more than 12,000 yards and 94 touchdowns, while completing better than 69 percent of his passes. However, in 2023, he was only able to play in a handful of games due to injury. Even when he did play, the Bulldog offense simply wasn’t as effective in the new scheme as it had been under Mike Leach. Perhaps the transfer will help get Rogers back into a system better suited for his talent.
As a recruit, Rogers was the No. 590 overall prospect in the 2020 class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He also ranked as the nation’s No. 41 quarterback and the No. 19 recruit in Mississippi.
