Washington guard Mekhi Mason enters NCAA transfer portal

Washington guard Mekhi Mason has entered the NCAA transfer portal, according to a report from On3’s Joe Tipton. He does so after just one year with the Huskies.
Mason originally enrolled at Rice and spent two seasons with the Owls. Then he transferred to Washington ahead of the 2024-25 campaign.
He fared fairly well at the higher level, though his per game averages dipped a bit from his sophomore season to his junior season. Still, Mason was a very productive player.
Mekhi Mason averaged 9.9 points and 2.1 rebounds per game. He also chipped in 1.4 assists and 1.0 steals per contest.
He did that while appearing in 31 games for the Huskies. He started 20 of those games.
Perhaps the quality that sticks out the most about Mekhi Mason, and the one likely to generate him significant interest in the transfer portal, is his 3-point shooting. After posting strong freshman and sophomore seasons, Mason took things to another level as a junior at Washington.
He finished the season shooting at a 40.2% clip from downtown, a remarkably impressive figure. He did it on volume, too, making 53 of 132 attempts.

Washington loses a small forward
Mekhi Mason isn’t the only Washington player who has entered the transfer portal this cycle. Small forward Dominique Diomande has entered the transfer portal, On3’s Jamie Shaw has learned. This comes after he redshirted the 2024-25 season as a freshman.
Diomande came to Washington as a bit of a surprise recruiting win. The Ivory Coast native who list Tours, France as his hometown is considered a future NBA prospect. He played in 26 games for ADA Blois of the France-ProA U21 league where he averaged 16.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.8 steals per game.
He would join the Washington program in January as a walk-on. At the time, it was a surprise boost for the Huskies. However, he never ended up seeing the court before deciding to move on from the program and look for a new team.
On3’s Dan Morrison also contributed to this report.
