Washington head coach Kalen DeBoer has quickly built the Huskies into a contender. In two seasons at Washington, DeBoer is 23-2, including a perfect 12-0 mark this year.

With success has come interest from other schools, but so far DeBoer has stayed put.

Washington Director of Athletics Troy Dannen is working on a new contract for his head coach to ensure that DeBoer doesn’t leave. DeBoer provided an update on Monday as far as where those talks are.

“Troy, I just appreciate everything he’s trying to do, not just for me but for this staff and trying to bring it all together,” Kalen DeBoer said.

He wasn’t interested in providing too many details as far as where things stand with a huge game coming up this weekend.

Washington has a chance to win the Pac-12 title and potentially earn a spot in the College Football Playoff with a win over Oregon on Friday. Still, DeBoer admitted that behind the scenes, work is being done to secure a new contract.

“Much like I’m asking our players, my focus is on this game right now,” DeBoer said. “And in the meantime, there’s things that Troy’s trying to do. There’s maybe a moment or two where it takes a second of my time, but I appreciate him trying to take care of that business while allowing me to focus on our football team at the same time.”

Picking Washington Huskies vs. Oregon Ducks

Oregon is a 9.5-point favorite for Friday’s Pac-12 title game, despite Washington winning the battle between the two teams earlier this season.

On3’s Andy Staples and VSiN’s Patrick Meagher recently discussed the point spread of the Pac-12 title game and made their predictions on Friday’s marquee rematch.

“We can talk about Washington being out-gained by Washington State, and out-gained by Oregon State, and giving up 515 (yards) to USC. [But they’re] 19-0 in their last 19 (games),” Meagher said. “Last year they went to Eugene and beat Oregon when Oregon was ranked six 37-34. … DeBoer is a hell of a coach. There is no chance I’m laying almost doubles [digits] with Oregon in this matchup and I think Oregon’s the better team.”

Staples echoed Meagher’s comments.

“I picked Oregon the first time around because I thought Oregon was the better team, I still think Oregon is the better team,” Staples said. “But I’m a big styles make fights guy, and I feel like Washington can still score on Oregon just like they did last time. I think Oregon can win this game, but I have a hard time buying winning by double digits.”
