Washington Hires Arizona's Jedd Fisch | Instant Analysis from Andy Staples

Jedd Fisch is coming off what was by far his best season as a collegiate head coach. Now, that success has led him to a new home with him taking over the program at Washington.

After reports made it known that Fisch was likely to take the Husky’s job earlier on Sunday, they have shared the news that he has officially accepted the job in Seattle.

Fisch has been a coach at the college and professional level since the turn of the century.

In college, Fisch has experience at Florida, Minnesota, Miami, Michigan, and UCLA over seven years before spending the last three seasons in Tuscon. While in the NFL, he has spent time with Houston, Baltimore, Denver, Seattle, Jacksonville, the Los Angeles Rams, and New England in 13 years.

After spending the majority of his career as an offensive staff member, Arizona was Fisch’s first true stint as a head coach. Following a 1-11 start in 2021, the Wildcats improved to 5-7 in 2022 and earned him an extension with the program.

Then, in 2023, Arizona posted their best record since 1998 with a 10-3 mark. The Wildcats started at 3-3 with losses in overtime at Mississippi State, in triple overtime against a Top-10 USC, and, ironically, against the Huskies by seven. However, from there, they went on to win their final seven, including five against Top-25 competition with one coming in the Alamo Bowl against Oklahoma.

Fisch will now take over for Kalen DeBoer after he took the Alabama job last week following the retirement of Nick Saban in Tuscaloosa. Those are some fairly big shoes to fill after DeBoer led the Huskies to a 25-3 record over two seasons, including a Pac-12 Championship, a College Football Playoff berth, and an appearance in the national title game this year.

Fisch parlayed his best work yet into a new opportunity in the former Pac-12 which will now be in the Big Ten. How he follows DeBoer up, though, is all that the Huskies are worried about with him now taking over on their sidelines.
