A pair of Washington players, RHP Ethan Unruh and OF/LHP Dylan Osborne, have entered their names into the NCAA Transfer Portal.

Both Unruh and Osborne just completed their freshman seasons with the Huskies.

Osborne made more appearances as both a left-handed pitcher and an outfielder for Washington. In total, he played in 27 games with nine of those being starts. He fielded all of his opportunities this season with 26 put outs and an assist. Then, as a hitter, he batted .233 at the plate with 10 hits and five runs batted in.

As for Unruh, he appeared only as a relief pitcher in a pair of opportunities against Portland and Grand Canyon. In those opportunities, he allowed just one hit and one run across two innings. That helped him to post a 4.50 ERA and give up a batting average of just .143.

This news comes following the coaching change to Eddie Smith earlier this month. They did after the new staff at Texas A&M hired Jason Kelly as their pitching coach.

Since then, several players have entered the portal to leave Seattle. That includes C Carson Ohland, SS Lou Fujiwara, IFs Aiva Arquette and Cam Clayton, and several pitchers in Reilly McAdams, Grant Cunningham, and Max Fraser. The losses of Osborne and Unruh brings the transfer total to nearly double digits for Washington.

More on Washington hiring Eddie Smith

Washington has its new head baseball coach.

The Huskies hired Eddie Smith away from Utah Valley as their new head coach according to Kendall Rogers.

“BREAKING: @UW_Baseball is hiring Eddie Smith as its new head coach, @d1baseball has learned. Smith, who spent time at #LSU#UVA#NotreDame#Tulane, spent the last three seasons as the HC for @UVUbsb. Smith takes over for Jason Kelly,” Rogers posted on Twitter.

Eddie Smith led Utah Valley to a 29-29 record in 2024 after the Wolverines went 34-24 in 2023. Prior to Smith’s arrival, Utah Valley was 10-47.

He has also previously been an assistant at several schools, including LSUNotre Dame and Virginia.

Smith’s background is in hitting, and he will be counted on to improve a Washington offense that hit .248 as a team last season.

Washington struggled to a 19-30-1 mark in 2024, including a 10-20 record in Pac-12 play.
