Washington State QB Cam Ward is 'Heisman-like,' according to WR Josh Kelly
Washington State quarterback Cam Ward might be a guy to watch out for in the Heisman Trophy race, according to his wide receiver Josh Kelly.
Ward transferred into the program last season and broke out right away. This year, he picked up right where he left off and has the Cougars ranked No. 13 in the country.
Kelly joined Sirius XM Pac-12 Radio to talk about the campaign for his quarterback.
“It’s seems Heisman-like to you guys, doesn’t it,” Kelly said. “I know it certainly does to me. Though, just talking with the guys here. Cam is just a different person than he was last year. And I could just see that just from watching film from last year to how he’s playing now. I mean, he’s locked in. He’s you know, he dedicated himself to his craft and trying to get better each and every week. And with … another point of view, and how to look at the offense and everything, I think it’s helped him a lot.
“And I mean, it’s obviously shown on the video. I mean, how many touchdowns and zero interceptions, that’s really Heisman-like to me. We’ve now been able to stay focused and not and he just has to keep playing his game and do what he does.”

As a member of the Class of 2020, Ward was not ranked, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He played his school football in West Columbia (Texas).
Washington State heads to UCLA this weekend and Bruins head coach Chip Kelly raved about Ward and the matchup.
“I don’t think he’s taken off. I thought he was a really good quarterback last year,” Kelly said. “So, I have a tremendous amount of respect for him. He should be in the conversation for the top quarterbacks in the country. He’s athletic, he is sharp, (and) he throws an extremely accurate ball.
“I think he’s got great ball location accuracy and accuracy. It seems like he’s doing a great job decision-making this year. He can obviously beat you with his legs. He is right up there with the top quarterbacks in the country.”
