Clearwater (Fla.) Clearwater Academy International quarterback Evans Chuba has been playing under center since he was seven years old. He moved to the Sunshine State in April 2022 from Canada to get better exposure and competition before playing college football.

Chuba has had a busy few days, as he took official visits to Arkansas State (June 15-17), East Carolina (June 17-19) and Washington State (June 22-24). He felt very good about his future with the Cougars, so he committed to head coach Jake Dickert and his staff at the end of his trip to Pullman.

“Washington State made me feel like their top guy and that was big for me,” Chuba told On3. “On my visits, while I was making my decision, it was all about the people. The people were going to be what separated one school from the others and those are Washington State did that.”

Chuba was the only quarterback that Washington State offered and the only quarterback that the Cougars brought in for an official visit, which stood out to the 6-foot-4, 212-pound recruit. Dickert and Co. offered Chuba in early June after seeing him throw at the Mercer Mega Camp in Georgia.

Shortly after that happened, Washington State “came hard after” him.

“They started recruiting me right away,” Chuba said. “We built good relationships and the official visit just put the nail in the coffin. I love it there. Washington State is where I want to be.”

“Then as soon I got there, I could feel the energy,” he added. “It is second to none. Everybody on the staff knows me and shows me a lot of love. They love me on a deeper level than just a football player and after a couple of heart-to-heart talks with a couple of coaches, I knew I wanted to be there.”

According to Evans, there is a “great culture” at Washington State and he is excited to be a part of it. The signal-caller has already built a close bond with offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Ben Arbuckle.

“Coach Ben Arbuckle is great,” Evans said. “He is one of the youngest offensive coordinators/quarterback coaches in all of college football. He has great energy and we relate well to each other. His age is big for me because I feel I can build a deeper relationship with him and build more chemistry with him because of that. We are on the same page. He was easy to talk to. I know he is a smart coach too. At the end of the day, I think I can really grow under him. He is a genius with a great offensive mind. He will be fun to play for.”
