Washington State men’s basketball player Myles Rice announced some tough news on Thursday. He has cancer, and it will put his 2022-23 season on hold.

Rice announced he has been diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in a statement on Twitter Thursday. He redshirted last season for the Cougars and was gearing up for his first season on the court.

In his statement, Rice declared his intentions to beat the disease and his treatment will “interrupt” his 2022-23 basketball season. A GoFundMe page has also been set up.

“I will beat this heinous disease and will use my success to be a positive inspiration and uplifting testimony for others,” Rice said in his statement via the Washington State men’s basketball Twitter. “My diagnosis has made me desire to dedicate even more of my time and energy to my family’s non-profit organization, the S.O.L.O Center (Supporting Overcoming Life’s Obstacles).

“I am so thankful to have family and friends that will support me mentally and spiritually during this critical time because I know some people are not so lucky. I’m aware I cannot carry this burden by myself, so I’m accepting all prayers and all well wishes as WE beat this.

“A special acknowledgment to the Cougar Family, which has been nothing but amazing to my family and me during this difficult time. I would also like to thank all the doctors and nurses at Pullman Regional and Cancer Care NW that have made this process less stressful through their expertise of knowledge and guidance.”

Washington State is coming off a 22-15 overall record, including an 11-9 record in Pac-12 play. The Cougars missed out on the NCAA Tournament, but instead competed in the NIT, where they fell to Texas A&M in the semifinal round.
