West Virginia is on the board first in their Big 12 matchup against the Kansas Jayhawks. The Mountaineers took their opening drive 74 yards for the touchdown, capping it off with this 59-yard touchdown strike from quarterback JT Daniels to wideout Sam James.

The Mountaineers are looking to bounce back in Saturday’s matchup against the Jayhawks. After coming up short in the season-opening matchup against the Pittsburgh Panthers in the Backyard Brawl, the Mountaineers we’re looking to come out and strike hard and fast. And that is precisely what they did on the opening drive. All it took West Virginia was five plays and 74 yards to get on the board first. Now the defense will get a chance to slow down the much-improved Kansas offense.

At halftime, West Virginia holds a 28-21 lead over Kansas. The Jayhawks’ offense was able to put together a late drive and make it a one-score game before the half. Despite being able to shut out Kansas’s offense in the first quarter, the Jayhawks got the ball rolling, scoring all 21 points there.

This game has been a battle of two potent Big 12 offenses. Both teams have shown they are much improved on the offensive side of the ball. And there’s no debating that as both Daniels’ (Jalon for Kansas and JT for West Virginia) quarterbacks have been lighting up the field. Jalon is 12-18 for 127 yards and two passing touchdowns. He also has seven carries for 59 yards on the ground. JT has only missed one pass ending the first half 14-15 or 185 yards and three touchdowns. His two favorite targets in Ford- Wheaton and James have 172 of his 185 passing yards and all three touchdowns.

As the second half gets ready to kick off, West Virginia fans should expect more of the same from their offense and their high-power display. But their defense definitely has to tune in and lock up in order to put the Jayhawks’ offense down and win the game.
