Jacksonville State wide receiver Jordan McCants commits to transfer to West Virginia

Jacksonville State Gamecocks wide receiver Jordan McCants has committed to transfer to the West Virginia Mountaineers. There, he will be reunited with head coach Rich Rodriguez.
Jordan McCants spent three seasons with Jacksonville State, including one in which he used a redshirt. During that time, he was a part of the Gamecocks team that Rich Rodriguez led from the FCS ranks to the FBS ranks. Along the way, they had three-straight nine-win seasons.
Rich Rodriguez will be replacing Neal Brown at West Virginia. Brown led the program from 2019 through 2024, building a 37-35 record over that time. In total, there were two winning seasons under Brown, including as recently as going 9-4 in 2023. He also led the Mountaineers to four bowl games during that time, including in the 2024 season, though he didn’t coach that final bowl game for West Virginia.
In the 2024 season, McCants had his most productive season as a player individually. He finished the year with 15 receptions for 146 yards and 9.7 yards per reception. He also did have one rush for three yards. He also spent significant time playing on special teams for Jacksonville State.
After three seasons at Jacksonville State, Rich Rodriguez made the move back to West Virginia. This will be his second stint in Morgantown, having gone 60-26 in his previous stint, including a Sugar Bowl win. He left the Mountaineers following the 2007 season and has since coached at Michigan, Arizona, and most recently with the Gamecocks.

Since getting back to West Virginia, Rodriguez has been incredibly active in the Transfer Portal. The Mountaineers currently have the 56th-ranked transfer class in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 College Football Team Transfer Portal Rankings. That includes 41 players who have transferred out of the program and another 40 who have transferred into the program this offseason. Including the outgoing seniors and incoming freshmen and the Mountaineers can expect a completely new looking team next season.
Among those incoming transfers, four players, including McCants, are coming from Jacksonville State. Another five transfer players are at wide receiver. So, that unit will be completely revamped going into 2025. Now, it remains to be seen how those players handle moving into the Big 12.
