JT Daniels reveals how long it takes to build chemistry with receivers, offensive weapons
West Virginia quarterback JT Daniels came to the program as a transfer from Georgia during the offseason. That meant that he only had so much time to get ready with his wide receivers ahead of this season. There were times in the Mountaineers’ opener against Pitt when the offense looked effective, and other times when it looked like they needed more time.
During a weekly press conference, JT Daniels was asked about the chemistry that he has with his receivers. In particular, how long does it take to be comfortable and on the same page with them?
“You pretty much know it like the first day,” JT Daniels said. “To be honest with you, I’ve never had, like I’ve thrown a lot of footballs. I’ve played with a lot of really good receivers. I have a lot of really good receivers here.”

“Like, the timing thing is,” JT Daniels said using air quotes, “I don’t want to say overhyped, but to a certain extent it is when it’s like, oh a quarterback’s never thrown with these receivers before. I mean, you figure it out the first day. Right, like, I know where they’re supposed to be at what time. They know where they’re supposed to be at what time. The ball’s just got to get there.”

“There’s certain nuances you learn the more you play with people, but it’s not–it’s nothing that’s like a–there’s a huge learning curve too. Once you’ve done it enough, you’ve done it enough.”
If anyone knows how long it takes to get on board with new wide receivers, it would be JT Daniels. He’s on his third school in his college career.
JT Daniels was asked a follow-up question about trusting where his receivers are. He said, “I do.”
“There’s no issues with that. I think they’re, you know, I’ve really never had an issue with receivers that I haven’t–any receiver I’ve played with–where I’ve had trust issues of are they going to be where I need them to be. I just, typically, trust them, and they end up being there.”
