Neal Brown addresses whether this game vs. Texas has added meaning with Longhorns headed to SEC
Neal Brown isn’t feeling sentimental with the possibility of West Virginia playing their final game in Austin looming large.
While Brown recognizes there’s no hard feelings with Texas, the Mountaineers leader simply will continue to play who the schedule dictates.

“Not really,” Brown responded, when asked if the possibility of it being the final time he faces Texas at Big 12 opponents means anything to him. “It’s a conference game. I think it’s been pretty good games while both of us have been in the Big 12. I think our fans like going down to Austin. It’s a cool venue to play at. I’m kind of like, whatever. If I was going to go to Austin, I’m going to 6th Street. Watch the live music. I’m going to probably be staying up by Round Rock, and I don’t even look at what hotel were staying at, but it’s not like I’m going to be down there. Nah, I’m kind of indifferent to it.
“That’s not a knock on them, it just kind of is what it is. They lay out the schedule, and we go play them.”
Nevertheless, it’d be nice for West Virginia faithful to have what could possibly be their final time watching the Mountaineers in Austin be a victory. It’s up to Neal Brown and company to secure one.
Neal Brown talks Texas QB situation, challenge is preparing for Steve Sarkisian offense
Continuing, West Virginia is getting ready to take on Texas this weekend, and this poses a unique challenge for Mountaineers coach Neal Brown. He doesn’t know who Texas is going to play at quarterback, although it’ll likely be Hudson Card, but Steve Sarkisian has been trying to hide the starter since Ewers’ injury. On top of that, Brown needs to be ready for Sarkisian’s explosive scheme.
While speaking to the media earlier this week, Brown praised both of Texas’ quarterbacks. He also spoke about how challenging it is to prepare for Steve Sarkisian’s offense.

“Lot of respect for that brand and the team,” Brown said. “Start with the offense. I think it starts with Sark. I think he’s as good of a play caller as there is in college football.”
“Quarterback, whoever plays, they’re going to play at a high level at quarterback.”
Additionally, Brown took the time to praise Hudson Card, Texas’ experienced backup quarterback. After all, at many other schools, he might be the starter.
“I think Hudson Card has played really well. You know, [I’ve] been watching him since high school. Played at Lake Travis, one of the best high school programs in the country. He could have gone anywhere in the country. I think he’s a really good player. He played last year when he was healthy as well,” Neal Brown said.
“If Ewers plays, I thought he played extremely well early on against Alabama. Obviously, highly regarded. So, whoever lines up at quarterback, they’re gonna be good, alright? So, I think it’s pretty simple there.”
