Predicting ceiling, floor for West Virginia in 2024 season
On the latest episode of Andy Staples On3 on YouTube, Andy Staples was joined by Ari Temkin from Big 12 Radio on Sirius XM, where they predicted the ceiling and floor for multiple Big 12 programs.
Entering the season, the West Virginia Mountaineers are in a precarious position, but it’s evident Staples and Temkin are fans of Neal Brown and the team’s potential entering the 2024 campaign.
“I really like Neal Brown, and I was really happy for him getting off — basically, you know, coaching his way off the hot seat. I thought he did a tremendous job last season,” Staples said, regarding the Mountaineers. “… They’ve got everybody back. They want to keep this — this is a fun group. This is a fun team to watch.”
Ceiling: Big 12 Champions (Temkin), 9-10 Wins (Staples)
First, Temkin made a bold claim about West Virginia, predicting they would actually win the Big 12 this season, one year removed after Brown was almost sent out to pasture by the program.
“The reason I’m picking West Virginia where the conference is, I think there is good up front on both lines of scrimmages as anybody,” Temkin explained. ‘And I think they’ve kept the best quarterback, arguably in the conference in Garrett Green, who just scratched the surface and his potential last year. I mean, he had some fantastic games.”
On the other hand, Staples isn’t as high on the Mountaineers in 2024, but he still predicted a relatively high ceiling, featuring nine or ten wins for West Virginia.

Floor: 7-5
As for the floor, Staples and Temkin both agreed that they couldn’t see the Mountaineers falling short of seven wins in 2024.
“This is gonna be a fun team to watch,” Staples added. “I think their floor is 7-5. I think they’re going to be a very good team, one way or another.”
That’s a pretty good prediction for West Virginia. Not everyone will love the Big 12 champions prediction, but it’ll certainly be a popular one in Morgantown.
Alas, it remains to be seen how the West Virginia Mountaineers end up playing in 2024, but it’s evident Neal Brown’s team has some fascinating potential during the upcoming campaign. It should be a fascinating season for the program in 2024.
