South Carolina transfer Erik Stevenson commits to West Virginia

Fifth-year senior Erik Stevenson has committed to Bob Huggins and West Virginia, he tells On3. Morgantown will be the 6-foot-4 shooting guard’s fourth college, as he’s previously spent time at Wichita State, Washington, and most recently, South Carolina.

“I chose WVU because of the style of play and the culture that Huggs (Bob Huggins) has up there,” Stevenson explained to On3. “I feel like that’s the best fit for me for my last year of eligibility. Playing for a Hall of Fame coach is something special as well. Also, I have family up in that area. Playing in the Big-12 is going to be a challenge every night that I look forward too.”

Stevenson entered the transfer portal last month, and closely considered Arkansas, Auburn, and Creighton to go along with West Virginia.

This past season at South Carolina, Stevenson averaged 11.6 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 2.8 assists on 36.9% from the field.

Coming out of high school, Stevenson was ranked as a three-star prospect and 200th nationally according to 247Sports. He committed to Wichita State in 2017, where he spent two seasons with the program. In his freshman year, Stevenson averaged 6.5 points per game for the Shockers, before nearly doubling his productivity his sophomore year — averaging 11.1 points. Stevenson then transferred to Washington where he spent one season and averaged 9.3 points. His senior year was spent at South Carolina, but after the firing of Frank Martin, Stevenson decided to look elsewhere to play his final year of eligibility.
