Southern Illinois transfer linebacker Ben Bogle has committed to West Virginia via the NCAA Transfer Portal, On3 has learned. He has multiple seasons of eligibility remaining.

Last season, Bogle accumulated 87 total tackles, a conference-best 16.5 TFL, 5.5 sacks, 2 interceptions, 2 pass breakups, 3 quarterback hurries and a fumble recovery. He was named Second Team All-MVFC.

Those are impressive statistics, and Ben Bogle will be hoping to keep the good times rolling inside the Big 12. West Virginia is looking for a bounce back season, and they’ve added a player that can severely aid in their quest.

The spring transfer portal opened Wednesday, April 16 and will close 10 days later on Friday, April 25. As of this writing, more than 430 FBS scholarship players have entered the transfer portal this month and 3,600 players have entered in the 2024-25 portal.

More than 2,800 FBS scholarship players entered their names into the NCAA’s transfer database during the 2023-24 school year. Removing those who withdrew or went pro, the final total sat at 2,707 transfers. That means roughly 25% of all FBS scholarship players hit free agency in one year.

In data gathered over the first two years with transfer windows, the NCAA found most athletes enter the portal within the first four weeks of the portal opening. The study showed that 73% of men’s and women’s basketball undergraduate athletes entered during the first four weeks. That increased to 82% for men and 86% for women in 2024.

Moreover, North Carolina receiver Christian Hamilton has committed to West Virginia out of the NCAA transfer portal, according to a report On3’s Pete Nakos. He was a member of the 2023 recruiting class.

Hamilton spent two years with the Tar Heels. He redshirted in 2023 before appearing sparingly in 2024.

In two years, Christian Hamilton logged 10 catches for 187 yards and a touchdown. He also recorded one tackle on special teams.

Prior to enrolling at North Carolina, Christian Hamilton was ranked as a four-star prospect and the No. 372 overall recruit in the 2023 recruiting class. That was according to the On3 Industry Rankings.

He also checked in as the No. 57 receiver in his class. Meanwhile, Hamilton was also ranked as the No. 13 overall player from the state of North Carolina, hailing from Harrisburg (NC) Hickory Ridge.
