3-star EDGE Zion Young backs off West Virginia commitment

Atlanta (Ga.) Westlake EDGE Zion Young has decommitted from West Virginia, he announced Sunday afternoon.
Young is the No. 1097 prospect in the 2022 class, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is ranked as the nation’s No. 67 EDGE and the No. 109 prospect in the state of Georgia.
“Thank you to the West Virginia University coaches for believing me and offering me a chance to come play in Morgantown,” Young wrote. “After careful consideration and talk with my family and god, we have decided that it’s in my best interest to decommit from West Virginia at this time. Stay Tuned.”

The 6-foot-5, 226-pounder is coming off of an official visit to Michigan State this weekend and is considered a likely flip to the Spartans. MSU has one other EDGE committed for the 2022 class: three-star Chase Carter.
West Virginia, meanwhile, is now down to 15 commitments after Young’s commitment. The Mountaineers have the No. 32 class in the 2022 On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings.
