The 6-foot-2, 218-pounder chose the Mountaineers over finalists Kentucky, Tennessee, and Virginia, as well as more than a dozen other offers. James Heard becomes West Virginia’s eighth commitment in the 2023 cycle, joining a group headlined by four-star wide receiver and recent WVU pledge Rodney Gallagher.

Heard recorded 37 tackles, 19.5 tackles for loss and 10.5 sacks as a junior at Philadelphia (Pa.) St. Joseph’s Prep, but transferred to Camden this offseason.

The Mountaineers’ class ranks No. 23 nationally, according to the On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings.
