WATCH: David Sills V comes down with leaping touchdown grab for Giants
Former West Virginia Mountaineer receiver David Sills V has been turning heads in fall camp with the New York Giants. He spent countless hours working on his craft in the off-season with Giants’ starting quarterback Daniel Jones and his work is paying off in the preseason.
He hauled in a leaping touchdown grab this afternoon against the Cleveland Browns, contorting his body in mid-air to bring the football in. He connected in the fourth quarter of the game with Giants quarterback Brian Lewerke.
Sills beat Cleveland Browns defensive back Brian Allen on the play.
The former West Virginia receiver threw Allen a nice little stutter move on his route, then did what he’s always done best, make a contested catch in the red zone.
Giants defensive back James Bradberry recently called Sills a “crafty receiver” and that he has moves that not a lot of receivers use.
Can David Sills V make the Giants 53-man roster?
Some people are thinking that Sills has done enough to carve out a role for himself on the Giants football team, whereas others think he needs to perform on special teams to make the 53-man roster.
There’s no denying the impact he’s made in the preseason for the Giants team. Check out this beautiful catch he made down the left sideline from Clayton Thorson.
Simply a beautiful grab by Sills, how he extends his hands at the right moment, perfectly in stride.
Finally healthy
The former West Virginia star was likely to make the Giants roster in the 2020 season, but he fractured his foot in early September 2020.
Now that he’s back and fully healthy, he’s been taking full advantage of his fall camp opportunities with the Giants.
Sills was originally signed as a rookie free agent in May 2019 by the Buffalo Bills.
West Virginia legend
Sills finished his time at West Virginia as one of the most decorated receivers ever to call Morgantown home. In 2018, he finished his senior year with one of the greatest seasons by any receiver in college football history; ranking second nationally in one major category: receiving touchdowns (15).
