LOOK: West Virginia adds defensive line transfer from Georgia Tech
Georgia Tech transfer defensive lineman Michael Lockhart has found his new home after hitting the NCAA transfer portal in February. Lockhart announced his commitment to transfer to West Virginia on Twitter on Monday afternoon.
The 6-foot-4, 304-pound defensive tackle opted to transfer after recording 27 tackles and three tackles for loss in three seasons. He worked his way up the depth chart and was in a position to start after 2020. In the 2021 season, he played six games, posting nine tackles, including a half-sack against Georgia.
After entering the portal, Lockhart had no shortage of interest. He reported offers from Auburn, Virginia Tech, UAB, Jackson State, Jacksonville State, Western Kentucky, Eastern Kentucky and South Florida. He visited Auburn two months ago but was waiting until the end of the spring semester to make his choice.
The former Yellow Jacket is a Birmingham, Ala., native. He played his high school football at Huffman, where he was a three-star prospect in the 2019 class, according to the On3 Consensus.
Lockhart was one of more than a dozen Georgia Tech players to transfer after the 2021 season.
