In a matchup between two underwhelming Big 12 powers this season, Oklahoma vs. West Virginia delivered quite the ugly game, from the weather to the play on the field. However, when all the rain finally settled, it was West Virginia who came out on top, thanks to a game-ending field goal from appropriately-named kicker Casey Legg.

West Virginia drove the ball down and squeezed out every last second on the game clock before lining up for the game-winner with just four ticks left on the clock. Take a look at the stroke that put the Mountaineers over the top:

There you have it. The first win for West Virginia over Oklahoma since 2008. A win that keeps the Mountaineers alive in the hunt for bowl eligibility while setting Oklahoma back in that regard, with the Sooners now sitting at .500 with two games to go — one of which they will need to win in order to even make a bowl game. Not great for Brent Venables’ first season.

The win was also important for the future of the West Virginia program because of the developments at the quarterback position throughout the game.

Starter JT Daniels completed just 3/7 passes for 25 yards and tossed a poor fourth-down interception right to a Sooner defender before he was benched. On his first drive, backup QB Garrett Greene came in and immediately led a decent drive down the field which included a few first downs before an eventual punt that flipped the field. He completed his first pass for 26 yards (one more than Daniels’ total) while flashing much more running ability as well with four carries for 22 yards on the first drive.

BUT, Daniels came back onto the field the very next possession, with the Mountaineers still having a big goose egg on the scoreboard and trailing 3-0 to Oklahoma. Neither QB has been able to put points on the board so far, but Greene definitely showed a lot more in his limited time than Daniels ever did. On his first drive back, the Mountaineers made progress on the ground but wound up fumbling it back to Oklahoma on 3rd-and-9.

Then, Green returned in the second half and ultimately led the win. Crazy stuff in Morgantown.
