West Virginia benches JT Daniels for Garrett Greene during Oklahoma game

West Virginia got off on the wrong foot offensively once again. The Mountaineers failed to accomplish much of anything on their first few possessions of the game against Oklahoma, which prompted a QB swap from head coach Neal Brown.
Starter JT Daniels completed just 3/7 passes for 25 yards and tossed a pitiful fourth-down interception right to a Sooner defender before he was benched. On his first drive, backup QB Garrett Greene came in and immediately led a decent drive down the field which included a few first downs before an eventual punt that flipped the field. He completed his first pass for 26 yards (one more than Daniels’ total) while flashing much more running ability as well with four carries for 22 yards on the first drive.

BUT, Daniels came back onto the field the very next possession, with the Mountaineers still having a big goose egg on the scoreboard and trailing 3-0 to Oklahoma. Neither QB has been able to put points on the board so far, but Greene definitely showed a lot more in his limited time than Daniels ever did. On his first drive back, the Mountaineers made progress on the ground but wound up fumbling it back to Oklahoma on 3rd-and-9.
Murphy’s Law in Morgantown right now. And very strange decision-making from Brown and staff. It’ll be interesting to hear the justification for those moves in the postgame presser. West Virginia trying everything to try and pull out a win and stay in contention for bowl eligibility.
